This week Plymouth South will be administering the College Board “Readi-step”
Assessment for all freshmen for the
2013-2014 school year. This exam will
take place on Wednesday, October 30th
during the school day. The exam
is designed to help students improve their skills and prepare them for the
PSAT and SAT exams in future years. The
test is free of charge and the skills measured also align with the Common Core
standards. A few key highlights are: early indicators of college readiness; tools to help improve test taking skills; and provides information to help teachers work with
your child. Scores will be mailed home when they are available. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Marc Loranger, Freshman Vice Principal or Lindsay Saba, the Red Team guidance counselor.
Study Skills: This is the last week of term 1. Make sure that you are all caught up and work is turned in. Use your agenda daily to record assignments, and use a monthly calendar to note dates of tests, projects, and other outside appointments. November calendars are ready to go. All too often I have noticed students throwing away good points by not following grading rubrics and criteria sheets. Make sure you are not guilty of this. Utilize your study skills time to get work done--not for making excuses.
Homework club and extra help/tutoring is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays in room 218 from 2:15 until 3:00 p.m. Late buses leave Plymouth South at 4 p.m. on those days. Your team teachers are also available for extra help, and to make up tests, quizzes, labs, or other missing assignments.
English: This week Chapters 1 and 2 activities from Of Mice and Men will be completed. Plot Summaries, and vocabulary activities will finish, and a quiz will be given at the end of the week after much review. Homework will be to study your vocab cards and be prepared to review each day. A writing assignment will begin this week, based on Of Mice and Men and student journal entries and will continue into term 2. Daily Language activities -- Week 4 will be given this week and continue into next week.
