September 30 to October 4, 2013 Fall is Here!!

Where has the month of September gone? Tomorrow is October 1st, and that means Open House for parents from 7 p.m. until 9.  Looking forward to seeing many of you tomorrow night.

The days have been warm, and the nights cool so that now it really feels like fall.  Sports are in full swing, and  academic progress reports will be distributed on Friday, October 4. That means there is still another 4 weeks until the end of term 1.  Plenty of time to make changes particularly if you are having difficulty with any of your academic classes. Plan to stay for Homework Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:15 until 3. There are teachers to help, as well as National Honor Student volunteers.  Late buses provide transportation on both days.

English IB: Students are reading Of Mice and Men this week, learning about George and Lennie--characteristics and their relationship, as well as meeting other characters.  We continue to develop grammar and mechanics skills through Daily Language exercises, and our Vocabulary will be from the book for the next few weeks.

Study Skills: Students continue to monitor their daily progress with weekly grading sheets. The October monthly calendar will be distributed tomorrow, and students will be asked to add activities and appointments to this calendar, as well as sports events and school projects, tests and major assignments. Utilizing this calendar will make them aware that sometimes it is difficult to juggle all the things that have to be done. Unfortunately we are not born with time management skills; they are developed by practice and repetition.

Have a wonderful week!
