Fall has officially begun, and many of you are involved in fall activities in school and out of school--football, soccer, track, dirt bike competitions, karate, and other fun things, like apple picking. Homecoming was this past weekend and many of you attended the dance. It is important to get involved in activities, but there is a downside too. You need to learn how to manage your time so that everything gets done, and you don't get frustrated or frantic because you run out of time. A monthly calendar, and daily agenda will help you deal with all the different activities, appointments, assignments that you have to juggle in order to be successful.
By now all the opening of school paperwork should be signed and returned. Are all your teacher expectation letters signed and returned? These are all homework assignments that don't require a lot of work, but will count against your grade if not done. Have you returned the Freshman Field Trip form for the Aquarium trip--October 16th? Filling out your agenda should be an important part of your daily routine--the other important part is to complete the assignments that are in your agenda. If you are having difficulty, stay for extra help either with your teachers or at Homework Club (Tuesday and Thursday from 2:15 until 3:00).
English IB: This week we will be finishing up Vocabulary Unit 1, and the quiz will be on Wednesday. Daily Language continues, and we will begin our introduction to John Steinbeck's novella, Of Mice and Men, which takes place in California during the 1930's. Over the next few weeks, students will be reading the story and completing comprehension, vocabulary, and characterization activities.
SAVE the DATE: Tuesday, October 1 is Back to School Night--Parents follow your student's schedule, meet the teachers, and learn more about classroom expectations and curriculum. See you then.
