Vacation's Over - February 28 - March 3

Turned Into A Week of Sunshine and Warmth that was great for all kinds of activities

Did you get to do anything fun?  Ski, swim, ride, hike, and just enjoy being outside?

Welcome Back Red Team! Time to settle in and get to work since mid-term progress reports are this Friday, March 3, 2017.  Are you ready for your parents to get the all-call? 

ELA: Romeo and Juliet continues. Now that Romeo and Juliet are married, let's see what happens to them next. 

World History: Influential People in History presentations this week. Make sure that all your slides are complete so that you get full credit.  Check out Mr. Stanton's blog to make sure you have met the criteria. CP2 presentations will begin on Wednesday, so make sure you are ready.  Homework this week will be given out in class--Chapter 17 (2) and (3).

Algebra: Good job on quizzes before vacation!  Let's see if we can keep those grades going up.  Those of you who were absent before vacation, make arrangements to make up the test as soon as possible. Mid-term is Friday and grades count as 0 until test is made up.

Biology: DNA tests were completed the Friday before vacation.  If you missed it, make arrangements to make up the test as soon as you can--study skills, after school.  You need to remove the 0 so that your grade is where it should be for mid-term.  Starting the Cell Division Unit next--mitosis and meiosis, do you know the difference.

February 13 to February 17, 2017

After two snow days, and a snow-filled weekend, it is time to think happy thoughts as vacation is fast approaching.  Happy Valentine's Day, a Renaissance Ball, and historical exploration of Important People in history are ahead of us this week.

English:  Final drafts of argumentative essay are due, masks are due and Renaissance Ball on Tuesday just in time for Valentine's Day.  How appropriate with Romeo and Juliet meeting at the Ball and falling in love instantly.  Act I finishes up, new vocabulary for Act II and working on character trading cards. Make sure you have made up any missing work before vacation.

Algebra: Review polynomials for big test Friday!!

History: Most Influential People to History project continues this week.  Presentations should be Thursday when project is finished.  PowerPoint presentation should be approximately 8-10 slides with no more than 10 words per slide. 

Biology: DNA test moved from Wednesday to Friday.  Make sure you take the time to study. The extra review day is not enough.  Put the time in so that you get a good grade.  Study guides due on Wednesday as planned. 

February vacation begins at the end of the day Friday.  Get your assignments done and turned in this week because mid-term is the week we come back from vacation.

February 6 - 10, 2017 Way to Go Patriot's!!!!

After a long game, a nail biter for sure, the Patriot's showed what they were made of, and came back from a  25 point deficit to win in overtime. Rolling Rally in Boston on Tuesday, hopefully the snow will hold off.  Thanks Patriot's for a great season, and another Superbowl win!!!

English: Romeo and Juliet continues.  Mask project is due with explanation card--Friday, February10, in time for our Renaissance Ball.  Continuing to read Act I this week. Make sure you study for the Act I vocabulary quiz for Wednesday. Plan to study so you can use the word in context.

Biology: Last 8 words of vocabulary word wall quiz will be Thursday. Make flashcards and study. Continue with transcription and translation notes. Make sure that you have completed and turned in all your assignments--including the Strawberry DNA Lab.  

World History: PowerPoint presentation and research project assigned today.  Choose a person off the list, and be prepared to explore background, obstacles, accomplishments, etc.  Computer lab on Friday, and again next week--Tuesday. Presentations will be Thursday, February 16, 2017. Minimum 5-8 slides for your presentation with pictures.

Math:  FOIL, FOIL, FOIL, and extended multiplication this week.  Practice makes Perfect, so let's make it a point to learn the process.

January 30 - February 2, 2017

Final exams are done, second term has ended, and report cards have been distributed.  Were you happy with your results? or, do you need to make a better plan for term 3?  Do you have a homework routine, a place and time to do your homework without interruptions from cell phone, tv, or video games?  If not, you should!  Also you should be using your agenda or someway to record homework assignments, keep track of tests and quizzes, or projects. 

ELA:  Argument essay should be finished or almost finished.  Turn in this week! Romeo and Juliet has begun and there is so much fun for us in store.  Masquerade ball, role playing, and of course, the movies.  Stay on track, and make sure that you put the time and effort into your work.

History: Chapter 15 (4) and (5) was due last week.  This week you should be working on Chapter 16 sections.  Check Mr. Stanton's blog for specific details and questions. 

Algebra: POLYNOMIALS! Simplify, add and subtract like terms/degrees.  If you are having difficulty, get a math lab pass or stay after for extra help!

Biology: Strawberry DNA lab was last class. Vocabulary quiz on Monday 1/30 on the first five words. Use your split page notes, or flash cards to study.  This week the DNA unit continues with replication--making an identical copy of the DNA strand.

Put forth a good solid effort, and you will see the results of your time and energy!  Consistency is Key!! Three weeks until vacation.  Here we go---

Extra help is available on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons when there are late buses.  Stay and get extra help, or just get your homework done.  Room 241 or with Red Team teachers.  Make third term the best one ever!

From Martin Luther King Day through Mid-Year Exams to Donald Trump's Inauguration as President

This is indeed a monumental week from celebrating Martin Luther King Day and remembering his "I Have A Dream" speech, to the Inauguration of Donald Trump as President of the United States. Whether you agree or not, it is time to put aside differences and consider that all people should be treated equally and have the same rights.

John Locke said, "

so as we begin the peaceful transition of power within the government of the United States with a new president, Donald Trump says, "it is time to Make America Great Again!"

Mid-Year Exams are underway already.  B4 and B3 exams were completed on Friday, January 13. Tuesday exams are for A1 and A2 classes, Wednesday is for B1 and B2 classes, and finish up on Thursday with A4 and A3 exams.  Only Thursday is a 1/2 day; all other days have exams in the morning, then the other two classes.  Friday, January 20 will be a regular school day with K Block.   Make sure that you complete your study guides, stay after school for extra help and reinforcement if you are unsure of a concept, and get a good nights sleep and eat a good breakfast!

Term 2 ends Friday, and students will receive second semester schedules at the end of the day Friday.  You still have time to turn in missing work for credit as long as it is before Friday, January 20th.

Happy New Year--Make Things Happen 2017

Welcome back from vacation, and Happy New Year!  Time to Make Things Happen since it is almost time for term 2 to end, and mid-year exams.  For some of you, this will be easy since you have been working for the entire term, and grades are good. For others, you will really have to put forth some serious effort to get things done and pull up those grades.

Study Skills this week will focus on making up missing work--check your Aspen.  If you haven't already written down your grades for me, I need you to do that first.  Then look for missing assignments and get them made up.  Some of you have missing history to make up starting with 10.1, 10.3, 8.3 and don't forget that 13.1 and 13.2 are due this week.  Congratulations on getting all the timelines in on time--CP2!

Wednesday is Pearl Harbor Day, as Winston Churchill referred to the attack on Pearl Harbor and American entry into WWII:  "Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end, but it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."   

Midterm for quarter two is also coming up quickly, and it marks not the end of your freshman year, not even the beginning of the end, but...

December 5 - December 9, 2016

 Mid-term is Friday, December 9.  Make sure that you make up any missing assignments before then.  Progress reports on December 16th.

ELA: Continue reading A Separate Peace. Finish reading chapter 3 (page 40 to the end for Wed), make flash cards for vocab packet and study--Quiz on Wednesday. Don't forget that your Career Exploration sheet is due on Wednesday as well. 

Algebra I: Systems of Equations Project will be assigned on Tuesday--work on your project in class.  Project boards are due Friday, December 9th .  Presentations will be next week. Take your time and do your best.

Biology: Make sure that you finish and turn in your Endocrine Disease poster/pamphlet. Starting next unit this week--Word wall on Circulatory and Respiratory system.  Notes and drawings. Flashcards for the first eight words--quiz on MONDAY, Dec. 12.

History: Wednesday, is the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor--December 7, 1941. This week assignments continue with the Middle Ages--rise of Islam, Muslim Golden Age, and the Crusades. In addition the Medieval Timeline will count as a QUIZ grade. 

It is amazing how fast the year is going--only 3 weeks until the Holiday Vacation!  It is still not too late to turn this term around.  Set your priorities, make a plan, and get going!!!
